Nanomedicine Graduate Student Lilibeth Ortega-Pineda Successfully Defends Thesis

Lilibeth Ortega-Pineda, a graduate student in the Higuita-Castro Nanomedicine Lab, successfully defended her thesis on therapeutic applications for engineering extracellular vesicles.

Lilibeth Ortega-Pineda, a PhD student in the Higuita-Castro Nanomedicine Lab, successfully defended her thesis on Monday, November 14. Lilibeth's thesis, which is titled "Engineering Extracellular Vesicles as Nano-Carriers for Targeted Payload Delivery and Cell Reprogramming Applications" focused on developing a nucleic acid delivery system using extracellular vesicles (EVs) for targeted payload delivery, mediating cellular reprogramming of specific cell types, thus offering an alternative method of transfection to viral vectors. Lilibeth was a graduate mentee of Dr. Higuita-Castro from 2019 to 2022. Following her graduation, Lilibeth will begin working with Eli Lily in Indianapolis. Congratulations to Dr. Lilibeth Ortega-Pineda!
